Batista Quits WWE
Batista not only uttered the words “I Quit!” at Over the Limit, but he quit the WWE. It didn’t come off as a shock, since the morning of Extreme Rules, word was that Batista wanting to leave WWE.
Yet, the reasons for Batista’s departure is not a major factor, rather how WWE went about it.
Many people felt that Batista deserved a better send-off. While Batista may have been a multi-time World and WWE Heavyweight Champion, he got exactly what a superstar of his caliber deserved.
Batista quit on live television on WWE’s flagship show, with the spotlights on him. He headlined WrestleMania as the WWE Champion. And then headlined Extreme Rules and Over the Limit as #1 contender. As far as this author is concerned, WWE more than gave him a proper send-off.
What about a WrestleMania send-off?
At WrestleMania XXIV, Ric Flair was forced to retire. At WrestleMania 25, JBL quit after a 21 second squash match. And at WrestleMania XXVI, Shawn Michaels’ wrestled his final match. Unless Batista wanted to stick around for another year, quitting on Monday Night RAW the night after a helacious match with the top guy in the company is considered a thank you by WWE.
Bret “The GM” Hart
Just last week, Bret Hart captured his fifth United States title from The Miz. And now he’s the new General Manager of Monday Night RAW?
Twelve years ago, the possibility of Bret ever stepping foot back in the WWE was unlikely.
Not only did he return to the WWE, he headlined another WrestleMania, and became champion in his home country.
As the new GM, Bret issued a compelling main-event. A Triple Threat pitting John Cena against Edge against Chris Jericho. If either Chris Jericho or Edge won the match, they would gain the final spot in the WWE Championship Fatal4Way main event along with Randy Orton and Sheamus. But if John Cena won, neither Jericho or Edge would earn contention.
Will Bret make a good GM?
Honestly, Bret may not have the charisma but he understands this business better than anyone. And after witnessing the main-event, I believe Bret will find new and exciting ways to change up the format of Monday Nights.
