On June 11, WWE came to terms with the release of Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) from the WWE.
The reason behind Danielson’s release is believed to involve him choking Justin Roberts with a neck tie during RAW’s NXT invasion angle; which WWE deemed too violent for family programming. If WWE deemed choking out someone with a neck tie too violent, then what about the All-Chairs match between Batista and Undertaker, which included multiple chair shots to the head that were supposed to be banned?
Daniel Bryan is a submissions’ specialist; hence why he chose to choke out Justin Roberts. Seeing as the angle was praised by so many – fans and wrestlers alike – the spot for the angle worked perfectly.
WWE waited until the end of the week to release Daniel Bryan, even after having him continue to work the angle at a Florida Championship Wrestling event. The angle in FCW consisted of Daniel Bryan and Heath Slater teaming up against a babyface Miz and Christian, resulting in the FCW set also being torn down.
So why wait so long to release Bryan Danielson? Especially when the footage was shown several times throughout the rest of the week? The fact that Linda McMahon is running for the Republic Senate seat may have something to do with it. Some think that Danielson’s release is a work to fuel the NXT Invasion angle. So then, why weren’t the rest of the eliminated rookies released as well?
Recalling back to Bryan Danielson’s post NXT interview, he had some choice words for NXT Host Matt Striker about “Daniel Bryan” being eliminated from NXT:
“If you go on YouTube and see Daniel Bryan, all you’ll ever see is Daniel Bryan – WWE. But there was this guy… Man… He was out there, kicking people’s heads in. People called him The Best Wrestler in the World. The Best Technical Wrestler. Champion in Japan, Mexico, and Europe. And do you know what his name was? You might know this guy…”
(Cut off by Matt Striker)
“Daniel Bryan? I don’t know, man… That might be it for him. He was eliminated from NXT. He can’t even defeat Rookies. What’s wrong with this guy? He could take Batista to the limit! But he can’t beat rookies?! Daniel Bryan might be done… But, Bryan Danielson… God knows what’s going to happen to him.”
Similar to when The Miz lost to John Cena with his contract on the line last year and then returned a whole new agenda; Daniel Bryan may be released in order to introduce Bryan Danielson.
Seeing as Bryan Danielson did not violate the Wellness Policy in any way, and did not physically harm anyone, this may not be the last we see of Bryan Danielson. Especially, since his feuds with Michael Cole and his NXT Pro, The Miz, made him a focal point in the NXT invasion angle.
