Fresh out of Fatal 4-Way, RAW benefited with a new WWE Champion, and the uncertainty of new foes by the name of Nexus. With Sheamus as the WWE Champion, will his reign be any different from his first?
Prior to the draft, during Sheamus’ first reign, the only contenders in the main-event scene were John Cena, Randy Orton, and Triple-H. Sheamus defended his title against Cena and Orton on a number of occasions, but Triple-H cost him the title inside the Elimination Chamber right before WrestleMania.
Now that the draft has taken place, RAW not only kept Cena, Orton, and Triple-H but they now have Edge and Chris Jericho. The Fatal 4-Way showcased Sheamus, Cena, Edge, and Orton vying for the title. But now that Sheamus is champion again, he has the addition of taking on Edge and Chris Jericho.
Moreover, the anonymous RAW GM has given all seven members of Nexus full-time contracts, along with Wade Barrett’s championship title match. Shemus had mockingly thanked Nexus for taking out Cena for an easier win at Fatal 4-Way, but not to make the mistake of believing that they are the sole reason why he’s champion. Wade Barrett, in regards to Sheamus’ statement, has targeted him for a future title match.
Then when Randy Orton wished Wade Barrett in becoming the next WWE Champion, so that he can be the one to take it, The Miz interjected and placed his candidacy for the title hunt. Much like when Ultimate Warrior became the first-ever Intercontinental Champion to hold the WWE Title simultaneously, The Miz wishes to be the first to do so with the United States Title.
Sheamus making his first year in the company, and already on his second reign as WWE Champion, will find that the main-event scene on RAW is finally expanding from the mundane trio of Cena-Orton-Triple-H.
Author’s Notes: Wade Barrett contending for the WWE Championship sounds like a fantastic idea. However, Wade, no longer a rookie, needs to start earning victories against fellow RAW superstars before he can move on to contest against Sheamus. Sheamus didn’t become WWE Champion overnight, he had to pay his dues in ECW before being bumped up onto the RAW card. Wade just has to pay his dues before we can accept him being WWE Champion.
As for The Miz, he is possibly one of the most charismatic we have seen in WWE in a long time. The problem is, he’s still not main-event material. And how can he? He’s been stuck fighting MVP, R-Truth, and Kofi Kingston. Miz needs that main-event build; and the only way for Miz to actually become a main-event player is by having that one feud that will make him. And if John Morrison was at that main-event caliber, I would say Morrison would be the one to do so. But perhaps, if WWE plays it right, a real feud between Morrison and Miz can make them both into stars.
