WWE will present Night of Champions tonight live from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Last week, Chris Jericho vacated his spot in the WWE Heavyweight 6-Pack Challenge match after losing to John Morrison. Raw’s General Manager presented John Morrison the opportunity to fill-in the vacancy if victorious against the champion Sheamus in a Falls Count Anywhere match. With parkour training, John Morrison almost claimed victory if not for a vengeful Jericho. Chris Jericho was reinstated into the match after defeating The Hart Dynasty in a 2-0n-1 Steel Cage handicap match. Chris Jericho not only claims that he will win the WWE Heavyweight title, but if unsuccessful will walk away from the WWE. The champion Sheamus will defend the WWE Heavyweight title against John Cena, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett, Edge, and, once again, Chris Jericho.
WWE Tag Team champions The Hart Dynasty’s Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith have not been scheduled a title-defense match for the pay-per-view. But according to Matt Striker and Todd Grisham on SmackDown, Hart Dynasty will indeed defend the titles. The most likely candidates are Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, who were successful in a non-title match.
Michael Cole quit his commentary position on NXT stating that the show compromised his journalistic integrity. In accordance with Joey Styles, Michael Cole was once abducted by Heidenreich. So to say that commentating for a roster full of potential divas is going against his journalistic integrity is absurd. With Michael Cole now out of the picture, FCW’s Byron Saxton, ECW’s final play-by-play commentator, may fill in the position.
Tension is brewing on NXT as Vickie Guerrero is jealous of her NXT rookie Kaitlyn spending time with her boyfriend Dolph Ziggler. After the two won a mix-gender tag team match against Primo Colon and AJ Lee, Kaitlyn, swept in the moment of her first victory, hugged Dolph Ziggler. If Vickie does not put a stop to this soon, it will be Vickie who will need to be excused. Kaitlyn also won the obstacle course challenge earning a point towards immunity from the first elimination.
Jamie Keyes, NXT’s former ring announcer, also earned a double victory on NXT. She won an excruciating “Joke Off” challenge, and picked up a singles victory over Aksana. With this being her second loss, the Lithuanian world-class bodybuilder and fitness enthusiast is going to have to work harder if she wishes to “make victory.”
Melina Perez‘s opponent for Night of Champions has finally been decided. In an old-fashioned “Pick a Name out of a Hat trick,” Michelle McCool tricked Layla-El by stuffing the ballots with her name. In the Title Unification Lumberjill match, Michelle McCool will defend the Women’s title against Melina’s Divas’ title. A smart choice seeing as McCool defeated Melina for the Women’s championship during last year’s Night of Champions pay-per-view. Will history repeat itself, or will Melina strut down the red carpet as the Undisputed Women’s champion?
After a spectacular night in NYC, Ring of Honor returned to HDNet this past Monday. Christopher Daniels defeated “Addicted To Love” Rhett Titus, managed by Austin Aries. Jim Cornette broke the news at Glory by Honor IX that Davey Richards resigned with the company. To see the emotional interview click here: ROH Glory By Honor IX – Davey Richards Announcement. Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, The American Wolves, picked up a victory against The Super Smash Brothers’ Player Uno and Player Dos. Austin Aries scored a controversial pin-fall victory after Rhett Titus struck Delirious‘ throat with a knee drop from the top turnbuckle. Announced for this Monday’s main-event, Austin Aries will face Delirious inside of a Steel Cage.
After the clean sweep loss against the members of Ric Flair‘s Fortune at TNA No Surrender, Tommy Dreamer, the leader of EV2, called for a truce. Despite putting over every member of Fortune as the future of the business, AJ Styles, who forced Tommy to say “I Quit,” shook the man’s hand and then attacked him. Tommy Dreamer should have thought twice than to befriend a faction led by “The Dirtiest Player in the Game.” Brian Kendrick, with a messiah complex, came to the aid of Dreamer acting as a human shield. Kendrick then proceeded to pick up a slick victory over “The Insurance Policy” Matt Morgan, after challenging anyone from Fortune to a match. Embarrassed over the loss, Matt Morgan has found himself a new target.
Max and Jeremy Buck of Generation Me claims that they will be the new TNA Tag Team champions after they injury Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. Much like what happened to Rob Van Dam, if a champion is unable to defend within 30-days, the title must be forfeited. If Shelley and Sabin were able to retain their titles in a Best of Five series match up against Beer Money, Inc.’s Robert Roode and James Storm, then the threat of the half-sized/half-built duo of Generation Me poses no threat.
Very rare does a professional wrestler find glory outside of Vince’s company. But Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle proved to be two of WWE’s biggest loses as they stole the show at TNA No Surrender. Originally booked as a Triple-Threat match for Bound for Glory, TNA President Dixie Carter overruled Eric Bischoff‘s decision and issued Hardy and Angle to have a rematch, this time no-time limit. Hardy and Angle made use of the no-time limit rule by fighting through Impact! and straight into TNA’s other show, Reaction. Reaction is a one-hour behind the scenes show, where they recap what is going on in TNA, and conduct interviews with several of the wrestlers. Hardy and Angle concluded their match on Reaction to a Double-Draw. As both Hardy and Angle had their shoulders pinned to the mat as both Brian and Earl Hebner called the 3-count. Eric Bischoff went on to re-book the Triple Threat match, which includes Mr. Anderson, for the TNA World title at Bound for Glory.
