Matt Hardy was finally released from his WWE contract as of October 15. Matt Hardy would like to thank all those that made it possible: World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon, Michael Hayes, Dave “Fit” Finlay, Arn Anderson, Pat Patterson, all those guys. Wait, why is Matt Hardy so thrilled about being released from WWE?
Ever since his brother left the company in 2009, and under the circumstances that he left under, Matt feels that he has been kept down because of his last name. He also states that WWE has changed from whence he first started.
Granted, both the tag team and women’s divisions have gone to hell since. But twelve years ago, Matt Hardy was the young up-and-comer who was given a chance to succeed. WWE is still looking to push young wrestlers and give them the same opportunities of other wrestlers. But Matt Hardy is now a veteran, and whether he failed to benefit from his multiple pushes is clearly on him.
When Matt Hardy was first separated from his brother, he became Version 1. As a Cruiserweight champion, Matt Hardy garnered a lot of heat and cut some of the best promos. Matt Hardy was climbing the ladder of success and had all the makings of a main event star. But when Edge stole his girlfriend Lita, both on-screen and in real life, Matt failed to capitalize on the one brief moment of his WWE career that would have sling shotted him as a top fan favorite. Instead, Edge ran with the opportunity and became The Rated-R Superstar.
Then Matt Hardy’s second wind came in subsequent reigns of the United States and ECW championships. From there, Matt had the opportunity to steamroll himself as a main event star after costing his brother Jeff the WWE Heavyweight title. Once again, he failed to capitalize on the moment.
This was a man who competed against The Undertaker in the main event of the premiere of WWE Superstars on WGN America. This was a man who promised his Mattitude Followers that by the end of 2010 he would become the World Champion. This was the man whose mantra was “The Man Who Will Not Die.”
Matt Hardy’s WWE contract wasn’t up for another year and a half. His early release was a symbolic gesture of throwing in the towel.
Matt Hardy’s newest goal is to make TheHardyShow.com into a million dollar business within three years. For those unaware of The Hardy Show, it is a reality “made for” television series of the personal lives of The Hardyz along with their friends and families, which include Shannon Moore and Shane Gregory Helms. The Hardy Show is currently on its Tenth Season with most of its revenue made from online memberships and DVD sales.
As wrestling is concerned. Matt Hardy’s next move will most likely lead to TNA Wrestling, where Jeff is the TNA World Champion and the lead heel for TNA’s Immortal faction.
Final Thoughts: I hope that Matt Hardy does find happiness outside of World Wrestling Entertainment. Two things that he needs to focus on is finding his passion for wrestling again, and working on his mic skills. Hopefully TNA will be in better shape once Matt Hardy shows up in the Impact Zone in early 2011. Good luck and the best on your future endeavors.
