On Monday Night Raw, C.M. Punk may have won the Despicable Me Award but the distinction should go to Jeff Hardy for his inevitable self-destruction. Despicable being the word describing Jeff’s actions since leaving WWE.
Last year, after losing a Title vs Career match on Smackdown, Hardy hinted of an in-ring return. Many fantasized of Hardy’s feud with C.M. Punk being revised for WrestleMania. But on January 4, when he ran in on the live edition of Impact!, Jeff severed his ties with WWE and instead joined TNA. Despite the numerous offers from WWE, to the point where he would not have to work house shows, Jeff chose the pay-cut and lesser hours over being a global phenomenon.
Not only that, almost immediately following his departure from WWE, Jeff Hardy was arrested with possession of drugs with intent to distribute.
In a press release from last year by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, it states officers found 262 Vicodin prescription pills, 180 Soma prescription pills, 555 millilitres of anabolic steroids, a residual amount of powder cocaine and items of drug paraphernalia when doing a search of Hardy’s home. The specific charges currently against Hardy include conspiracy to traffic in Opium, trafficking in Opium by possession, two counts of possession with Intent to Distribute, felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a controlled substance in a vehicle/dwelling/place and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Since late 2009, Hardy’s been in and out of court with court dates being delayed each time.
Now if implications of Jeff in possession of drugs wasn’t bad enough, then a recent YouTube video were he shoots on C.M. Punk, while constantly rubbing his nose, is just icing on the cake. He had these words to say to C.M. Punk: “You should follow me, you should listen to my preaching because it’s gunna get you through life. It’ll make you live life… the right way. Your way is not the right way.” A message stemming from a personal grudge between the two lifestyles of these wrestlers. Coming back to 2009, Punk said it best, “Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” While Jeff Hardy may be able to do whatever he wants in TNA without any penalties, he also proved C.M. Punk right.
Jeff Hardy has been reported of showing up to wrestle while intoxicated. The situtation has become so out of control that Jeff Hardy was almost pulled from TNA Wrestling’s Final Resolution pay-per-view and stripped of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship due to his condition backstage at the event.
Bill Behrens, who coordinates independent bookings for several TNA stars, noted on his weekly podcast that company officials have allowed Hardy in the past to wrestle while impaired. Behrens also discussed Hardy’s vicious chair shot to the back of Ken Anderson’s head in October, which resulted in the former Mr. Kennedy suffering a severe concussion and sizable wound. He said that Anderson is in a great position to sue the organization since he could claim Hardy was unfit to compete when he issued the negligent chairshot. Behrens says it’s considered an “open secret” within the company that Hardy is still using drugs and thus they wouldn’t have a chance in court.
So with that being said, The Wrestling Times would like to award Jeff Hardy the Despicable Award for the following: Jumping companies and alienating Mr. McMahon and devoted WWE fans; still having severe drug charges; obviously resorting back to your vices; wrestling while impaired; issuing a negligent chairshot to Mr. Anderson causing a severe concussion; and having a newborn daughter and still not getting your act together.
Final Thoughts: Maybe he should’ve had C.M. Punk as his guidance counselor.
It should be noted that the backstage information for this post was taken from ProWrestlingScoops site in a story entitled: “Jeff Hardy Wrestling While Impaired Reports, Drugs” reported by Ryan Clark on December 13, 2010.
Jeff Hardy has viciously denied the rumors of his condition at Final Resolution, stating that the story should never have been born. Well… he would be more convincing if he didn’t bust open Mr. Anderson’s head with a chair, or record a drugged video shooting on C.M. Punk.
