New WWE Tag Team Champions were crowned this past episode of WWE SmackDown, as The Big Show and Kane defeated the now former-champions of Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. So now the world wants to know, who will contend for the belts next?
Welcome back to The Wrestling Times. There was a partial gratification in witnessing The Big Show and Kane win their second championships as a team, but it quickly changed after realizing that WWE has no more viable Tag Teams that could ever take down Show and Kane. And seeing as how The Corre is on the fast track to Splits-ville, there’s no chance of seeing the belts on Slater and Gabriel anytime soon. So you know the drill. Let’s discuss–are you ready?–Wrestling.
Since The Hart Dynasty split, The Usos, after losing Tamina, haven’t been on WWE TV, and (for reasons unknown) Vladimir Kozlov has been off TV, so no Santino Marella and Kozlov, let’s look at the other likely possibilities:
There’s the possible team of The Miz and Alex Riley. The former FCW Florida Heavyweight Champion has yet to hold any gold thus far in the WWE; however, teaming with The Miz would not be a smart business decision. Throughout his Tag Team Career, The Miz has always forcefully taken on the role of Team General; whether it was with John Morrison, or The Big Show, The Miz was the driving force that lead them to championship gold. Though, adding another belt around the shoulder of The WWE Champion may seem tempting, The Miz’s days of wanting to become a Tag Team Champion are far behind him. The Miz has already proven to the MIZ-takes that he is capable of becoming Tag Champs at a moments notice, when he single-handedly defeated Gabriel and Slater to win his fifth WWE Tag Team title. He basked in the mediocre glory before turning on his partner John Cena to purposefully lose the belts. So is there a possibility of seeing The Miz and Alex Riley as WWE Tag Team Champions, absolutely; would I hold my breath, not really.
You may be familiar with this next guy. He’s quickly becoming a YouTube sensation, his t-shirt has sold out on WWEShop.com, and a fan’s sign about him was confiscated at a WWE event, that’s right, he’s Zack Ryder. With more and more wrestling fans turning to YouTube and Twitter, it’s not a surprise that Zack Ryder’s character is heavily going over with the fans. He’s a hilarious character, with The Miz and John Cena having both spoken wonders of him in interviews during WrestleMania season. With the WWE Draft taking place this Monday, WWE has the unique opportunity of sending Ryder, Curt Hawkins, and Trent Barreta to WWE SmackDown. Together, the three can form The Zack Pack and contend for the WWE Tag Team Championships. And as per the “Freebird Rule,” any two of The Zack Pack could defend the titles on any given night, keeping the belts around them for a long time.
So that’s it for this post. No joke, WWE has done such a horrific job in the Tag Team department that there are hardly any contenders that could look strong against Show and Kane. It’s not like back in the day when Main Eventers would team up and form Dream Teams, like The (Two-Man) Power Trip of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Triple-H. I guess they could put John Cena and The Rock together, but that’s hardly something I want to see so far away from their WrestleMania XXVIII encounter.
