With the BFG series firmly behind him, Bobby Roode has been precariously placed in the opposing corner against his stablemates of Fortune. This sudden new challenge, devised by the reigning TNA World champion Kurt Angle, has the potential to not only create hostility within Fortune, but to weaken Roode’s mental fortitude.
Bobby’s first opponent was Kazarian. The former 5-time X division champion wrestled with urgency from the initial lock up, to the rapid succession of hammerlocks. However, Roode kept overpowering the lock ups, and reversing the hammerlock holds. Frustrated, Kazarian attempted some high risk spots that yielded no reward because Roode kept evading the springboard and the slingshot maneuvers. Kazarian’s demeanor completely changed when Roode countered his Hangman’s neckbreaker DDT into a bridging suplex. The self-proclaimed Future of TNA struck Roode’s head with several stiff punches, urging him to wrestle back.
Kurt Angle’s mission, as apparent when he spoke to Kazarian prior to his match, was to cause dissention and strife within Fortune by promising future title shots to those successful against Bobby Roode. Although an ingenious effort by the Olympic Gold Medalist, Kazarian was unsuccessful in pinning Roode. In a momentary lapse of judgement, Kazarian almost exited the ring without congratulating Roode for being the better man. This would have been Kurt’s consolation prize, but Kazarian did the right thing by shaking his hand and adding, “You are ready.”
Bobby Roode’s road to Bound for Glory is an unpleasant one. With Fortune put on notice that if they choose not to wrestle against Bobby Roode, their place in the company would dwindle to that of enhancement talents, each match that Bobby has from now until BFG will be at their best. Thinking about it, what better way to prepare for the biggest match of his career than to take on the best collective group of wrestlers that the company has to offer?
Kurt Angle has been regarded as a “Wrestling Machine,” able to put on show stealing matches even when the cameras aren’t rolling. So for Roode’s sake, he needs to risk his friendships with James Storm, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, and Kazarian if he expects to be at his best come Bound for Glory.
