It’s almost been nine years since the decision to tape TNA Impact! out of Soundstage 21 at Universal Studios Florida was made. Eight years of being considered an “attraction” to the Disney family goers. Eight years of wrestling at the IMPACT Zone in front of the same crowds week in and week out. Then, after 477 episodes, TNA President Dixie Carter made the announcement that IMPACT wrestling was going on the road indefinitely starting March 14 at the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago.
The decision to take IMPACT wrestling on the road is a milestone for the company because wrestling fans can now enjoy the action live in larger arenas. Not only do the fans get to enjoy the show, but the wrestling industry will benefit with competitive programming which will ultimately stem with TNA now on the road. There’s already talk of the WWE making plans to twart TNA’s uprising by scheduling dates in advance and purhaps signing deals with owners to keep TNA out of their arenas. Whether it’s true or not, we shouldn’t put it past WWE to come up with such dastardly deeds.
Conspiracy theories aside, the move to bring IMPACT wrestling to arenas is a testimony that they are ready to showcase their product to the world. With an incredible roster of skilled and talented wrestlers, TNA really has an opportunity to grow as a promotion. Then can you imagine the amount of revenue TNA will incure from selling merch at these arenas?
With the afformentioned increase in revenue, wrestlers (including the Knockouts) will also receive an increase in pay. However, even though the wrestlers will be compensated, the stress level will also increase. Some wrestlers preferred wrestling once a week at Universal Studio Florida as opposed to the hours and money spent traveling from place to place.
Now with IMPACT wrestling on the road, will TV ratings actually increase? Will TNA wrestlers become more of a household name? Will the show ever reach the hallowed halls of the future WWE Hall of Famer… Madison Square Garden? (Yes, word has it that WWE has considered inducting a building…) What’s next? Inducting match stipulations?
