While the world had their sights set on the culmination of John Cena’s year-long redemption story at WrestleMania, Ryback reminded everyone that his time was now. With a meat hook clothesline and a Shell Shock cradle suplex, Ryback made his statement at John Cena’s expense loud and clear–He wants the WWE championship.
Ryback’s shot to main event WrestleMania was taken when he was eliminated at the Royal Rumble by John Cena. So it’s only fitting that at Extreme Rules Ryback gets his redemption by challenging Cena for the WWE title. But Ryback’s story for redemption didn’t begin at the Royal Rumble, though WWE will play it off that way, it actually began much earlier. Recall when Ryback was only one Shell Shock away from becoming champion at the Hell in the Cell pay-per-view, but because Paul Heyman had then-referee Brad Maddock on pay-roll, Ryback’s grasp at the WWE title was met with a low blow? Or how his meeting with both CM Punk and John Cena at the Survivor Series was met with a clubbing end at the hands of The Shield?
Ryback has always been seconds away from calling himself the WWE champion but has always been held back. Ryback is tired of the set backs, and his hunger for Gold is intensified with every victim that tastes the Shell Shock. Sure, it was all fun and games when Ryback had the fans chanting “Feed Me More”, but Ryback is finished playing games. And as far as John Cena’s WWE championship celebration is concerned, there is nothing more Ryback would want than to FINISH IT!
Question: Will we see a new WWE champion at Extreme Rules? [Comment below]
