They have dubbed themselves The Beard with The Best, and this Sunday at the Survivor Series from Boston’s TD Garden, Daniel Bryan and CM Punk face off against the mysterious and dangerous Wyatt Family clan members Luke Harper and Erick Rowan.
While it is unfortunate that Daniel Bryan was ousted from the WWE Title picture, his teaming with fellow former ROH/WHC/WWE Champion CM Punk is a wrestling fan’s dream come true. These two independent guys were told that they wouldn’t make it in the WWE, and while WWE could reserve the right to crown the “Face of the WWE”, Bryan and Punk have achieved the highest accolades in the WWE.
Who on earth would be able to box with wrestling greats’ The Beard and The Best?
The Wyatt Family is a perfect team for Bryan and Punk to face because they are unknowns. Sure, we have seen Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper under different names/companies, but not much else is known about them. Unless you watched NXT Wrestling, you may not have known that Luke and Erick were NXT Tag Team champions. Or that during his feud with the formerly known Kassius Ohno–now back on the independent scene as Chris Hero–Luke Harper actually speaks.
The point is, The Wyatt Family aren’t well known as far as back story is concerned, but what we do know is that they are impressive in both size and strength. We’ve seen Harper and Rowan manhandle the monstrous likes of Kane and Ryback, imagine what they can do to guys half their size?
As of late, WWE has been focusing–not so much on the WWE Tag Team titles but–a lot on the tag team division. Aside from The Wyatt Family and The Beard with The Best, WWE has cultivated The Shield, The Real Americans, The Prime Time Players, Los Matadores, and The Union Jacks (f.k.a. 3MB).
Sure, a change in attire hasn’t favored the trio now known as The Union Jacks, but it has sparked new life in Los Matadores. Not sure if WWE truly understands Spanish people but obviously Primo and Epico are Puerto Ricans disguising themselves as Spaniards. Still haven’t seen them enough to actually form a bond with them, but El Torrito is pretty entertaining. Then you have two awesome single competitors in Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro under the Zebetarian leadership of Zeb Colter. Regardless of the backwards mindedness spewing out of Zeb’s mouth, wrestling fans–whether “Real” American or not–cannot help but love these villains. As for Millions of Dollars, it took the coming out of Darren Young for the Prime Time Players to finally see a couple of W’s in the win column. The personal business of Darren Young is none of my own, but him and Titus O’Neil are flat out entertaining, and that is all that matters.
And yes, we all still believe in The Shield even when “reports” stated the end of The Shield was near. Since debuting one year ago at the Survivor Series (2012), The Shield have made an impact by tackling top WWE icons: The Rock, John Cena, The Undertaker… have earned championship gold… and they still continue to do things under their own power. Sure, The Shield has done The Authority‘s bidding on a number of occasions, but The Shield remain as mercenaries taking assignments that pay out big.
Speaking of big pay outs, we saw a glimpse of what would undoubtedly become an epic showdown of the two powerful factions of The Wyatt Family and The Shield on Monday Night RAW, will we ever get to see these two collide? It sounds like WrestleMania quality right there.
