NXT Women Invade Monday Night RAW

There is a surge of electricity still buzzing throughout social media over the blockbuster announcement laid forth by Stephanie McMahon. With the resurgence of women’s sports sweeping the world, the Principle Owner of WWE nourished the Divas division with a crop of new talent from the NXT developmental system. And let’s just say this invasion angle is awesome.

After weeks of trying to bring change to the Divas division, Paige was at the end of her rope trying to thwart Nikki Bella’s stronghold on the Divas championship of nearly 240 days. But with the Bella Army including Nikki’s sister Brie, and the newest groupie Alicia Fox, Paige was initially fighting a losing battle. Rumors went around the inter-web that the women from NXT would join Paige in the fight, but the card is always subject to change.

Then the rumors started taking shape as photos leaked on twitter of some of those NXT women shown arriving to RAW in Atlanta. But that could’ve meant anything, they could have been there to film a vignette or gain some experience by simply observing. But when Stephanie interrupted Nikki’s self-praising, that’s when the landscape of the Divas division changed.

Accompanying Paige in her crusade is the lass kicker from Dublin, Ireland, Becky Lynch. The steam punk’d, orange-haired wrestler made a hell of an impression at the last NXT Takeover when she took the current NXT Women’s champion to the limit. Also joining the team is the genetically superior Charlotte. The second generation wrestler dominated the NXT women’s division for the better part of a year.

But the fight against the Bellas doesn’t just involve Paige and her new team, which the inter-web has already dubbed as the Powerpuff Girls, Naomi and Tamina Snuka have been against both Paige and The Bellas. Juxtapose to this fierce duo is the self-proclaimed boss of NXT and current reigning and defending NXT Women’s champion Sasha Banks!

Talk about a dream come true. Two years ago, Paige made the jump to Monday Night RAW from NXT, to make a name for herself and to prove that the future was with NXT. Now we have three amazing talents blazing their own trails.

And how awesome was that sight as history was being made and the battle lines were drawn. Team Bella were staring at both Paige’s team of Becky and Charlotte and Naomi’s team of Tamina and Sasha Banks? The Atlanta crowd were losing their minds! It was like a superhero battle of the ages. It was like the X-Men vs. The Avengers vs. the Guardians of the Galaxy! Then the Divas champion made the drastic mistake of pushing the Women’s champion, then all hell broke loose.

It was a moment in time created by these three women, who have broken the barriers of what women can accomplish when given a chance.

A Nice Night Live with Chris Jericho and Cheap Pops

Out of the five exclusives promised on the WWE Network for this week, I was most excited for “The Return of the King of The Ring” (which you can read here), the second edition of Live with Chris Jericho feat. Stephanie McMahon, and the Mick Foley comedy special Cheap Pops. You could not ask for a better week to be a wrestling fan, with every night having something new to look forward to.

As talked about on a previous episode of Chris Jericho’s award-winning (in my mind) podcast Talk is Jericho, Jericho explains that the Live with Chris Jericho is a separate entity than his audio TIJ show. The #LiveJericho is simply an exclusive on the WWE Network and will never be made available in audio form. So if you want to hear Jericho’s talk with John Cena and Stephanie McMahon, they can only be viewed if you are a subscriber to the WWE Network. Call him an artist, call his a good company man, Chris Jericho is still the Best in the World at everything he does.

After listening to virtually every single episode of TIJ, even getting the distinct honor of being followed by the official twitter handle @TalkIsJericho, I took his conversation with Stephanie McMahon for what it was, a conversation. Much like you and your friends would have laying on the couch, tossing back a couple of cold ones. What many wrestling fans expect is not what Live with Chris Jericho, or even Talk Is Jericho, is about. They want Chris to bombard these WWE personnel with “hard-hitting” questions to unravel the fabric of kayfabe and time. They basically want a shoot-interview, and unfortunately my loyal readers, that’s not what podcasts are about.

Stephanie McMahon was great, she’s still very beautiful and such an awesome person. And the fact that her eight-year-old daughter has gotten some training from Natalya who says she has promise, is just pretty damn cool. She also talked about first starting out in the WWE working as a clerk, as a receptionist, and then interning in TV production. She went into when she first started dating Triple H and the trouble it caused. And so much more.

Live with Chris Jericho is definitely a must, and if you are a devote wrestling fan, then look no further than Cheap Pops. Mrs. Foley’s baby boy puts on a great comedy special, not to be confused with a stand-up comedy, which he explains in the show! He takes his viewers on an auto-biographical journey to explain why Brock Lesnar was the only man to break The Streak, and why it had to be him.

If you are a fan of his New York Times’ Best Seller “Have a Nice Day” then you are going to love Cheap Pops because the way he tells his stories is the way you would expect him to say it while reading his books. And for any other reason, he’s Mick Friggin’ Foley! There, I’ve sold you on watching Mick Foley’s Cheap Pops.

But seriously, Mick Foley had me laughing and smiling throughout, and made me happy to hear from the hardcore legend once again. And these comedy shows of his is his way of expressing himself creatively to all of us. What more could you want as a wrestling fan?

State of Divas Division without AJ Lee?

Pretty soon after WrestleMania, the wrestling world was stunned when news broke that the former 3-time WWE Divas champion AJ Lee had decided to retire from the WWE. This, undoubtedly, has left a void in the Divas division, which poses the question, who will fill her boots?

Known as Miss April on the independent scene, AJ made her breakthrough in the WWE as a “rookie” on NXT. Although she lost the competition, AJ was bound for greatness with her charisma and her infectious skipping.

She would later capture our hearts as the crazy chick who would lip lock with the male talents. Surprisingly one of those guys turned out to be her future husband C.M. Punk (funny how storylines become reality).

AJ was also the RAW General Manager, which was very strange because we all wanted to see her compete in the ring. Although she did look cute in a suit… But then she got serious with a hint of crazy. She became very outspoken and even stood face to face with Stephanie McMahon. How did that never pay off into a main event on pay-per-view?

She was also very vocal about certain Divas, The Bellas, only coming into the business to jumpstart their modeling career, or to be famous. AJ may not have been friends with every Diva, but she was outspoken about those she respected: Paige, Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Charlotte. When accepting her WWE Slammy for Diva of the Year, AJ had mentioned their names as the next Diva she would want to see winning the award. Simply put, she had the balls to say what nobody else had the balls to say.

AJ Lee left the company on top with a 2-0 win streak at WrestleMania, and a profound WrestleMania moment when she tapped out the Divas champion in the center of the ring. She had her Cinderella story come true as this nerd who wasn’t into the supermodel thing, but just a fan of pro wrestling. Hell, she cried when she met WWE Hall of Famer Lita when she was a kid. She got to live her dream as a wrestler, and now she’s living her new dream as a happily married woman.

After the events of WrestleMania, I assumed that the focus would have shifted over to Paige as the next challenger for the Divas championship, but it appears that the attention has been placed on Naomi.

Naomi was a fellow graduate with AJ as a semi-finalist on NXT. Rightfully so, she has the beauty and the athleticism–plus she can do a flying butt-butt better than Colt Cabana (sorry Colt). So it is about time that Naomi gets some attention.

Now enter “Big Pimp Daddy” Kane on RAW with his HO Train of Divas putting their bid in for the Divas championship by requesting a Divas Battle Royal. So now all the Divas are involved. And while it may seem unfair to Naomi, it just may be the next challenge that she supersedes to get her championship opportunity.

However, Naomi isn’t the only Diva getting some attention: Natalya and Ashley had a great match of SmackDown with guest referee Cameron. In spite of Cameron’s ability as a wrestler (remember when she covered her opponent who was on her belly?), she justified her standings in the Divas Battle Royal by dropping both combatants with a pair of DDT’s at the conclusion of the match.

Then there’s The Miz (no he’s not a physical Diva, he just acts like one), who gave a Diva a chance by allowing Summer Rae to have a feature role in his movie. Even though Summer Rae is displayed on the cover of The Marine 4 as Miz’s equal–and the main reason why most guys will watch it–Miz does have a point. She may or may not be a co-star in the movie, but she damn well held her own on the mic against The Miz. Now that was Awesome.

The landscape of the current Divas Division is starting to get interesting, but the moment the NXT women’s wrestlers start getting called up to the main roster, that’s when things will get really interesting.

Give Divas a Chance

WrestlingTimesX is not a misogynistic blog. WTX gives Divas a chance no matter how bad they may be on the mic or in the ring (that’s right, Bellas). WTX supports the exposure of talented women like a Paige or an AJ Lee (not like that… #NakedPaige)

When the #LikeAGirl spot aired during the Super Bowl, WWE followed with their own #LikeAGirl spot featuring WWE Divas from the main roster and NXT to demonstrate that their Divas are role models because they are strong and beautiful. But after a brutally short Divas Tag Team match on Monday Night RAW, the #GiveDivasAChance movement was born because, clearly, WWE needs a reminder that the Divas should not be overlooked.

Before making her return to WWE this past Monday, AJ Lee blindsided Stephanie McMahon on twitter stating that the Divas were grossly underpaid despite being on the highest rated segments and having record-selling merchandise. Stephanie McMahon was said to be livid–wouldn’t you be if your employee made you and your company look bad on social media? But her response–probably advised by office staff members and Vince McMahon himself–was curt, yet professional. Because it’s not like Stephanie could berate AJ Lee on twitter after just tweeting about Women’s Rights and Using Your Voice to be heard. She would’ve been a total hypocrite.

Much like her husband, AJ is not afraid to voice her opinions in a public forum such as an episode of Monday Night RAW or on the twitter. And despite the fact that she does not like the term “Diva”, AJ is very vocal on the importance of women’s wrestling.

Yet, in true WWE fashion, while Vince may “hear” the fans clamoring for more women’s wrestling, the movement has already been downplayed to where R-Truth, who will be one of the participants in the Intercontinental championship ladder match at WrestleMania, promoted his own hashtag at commentary #GiveTruthAChance. This of course trended on twitter for some time because: A) It was entertaining; and B) Wrestling fans what to see more talents being utilized.

With WrestleMania so close and the predominate Divas storyline focused on Paige’s title hunt against Nikki Bella with Brie Bella, and now a returning AJ Lee, will WrestleMania have a Fatal Four-Way bout for the WWE Divas championship; or will it subject us to a multi-free-for-all Divas Battle Royal as in previous years?

But in the mean time and in between time, while we wait for the WWE to give Divas a chance on the main roster, check out NXT on the WWE Network and watch the women’s matches there. At NXT Takeover R-Evolution, Charlotte and Sasha Banks had a fantastic match for the NXT Women’s championship. Then at NXT Takeover RIVAL, we witnessed a great Fatal Four-Way and the crowning of a new champion. The women on NXT outshine even some of the guys from the main roster because they don’t play cute and dumb. When that bell rings, those women show the world that #LikeAGirl they can be strong and beautiful.

Kane’s New Master

Has the Big Red Monster resurrected?

With the late, great Paul Bearer now enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame, Kane has answered the call of his new master, Stephanie McMahon.

When The Authority first made itself known to the WWE Universe, Kane relinquished his demonic red leather mask and upgraded his wardrobe to a suit and tie because he recognized the dark presence from Stephanie. He told her, I am yours to do your bidding.

But after months of failures and set backs, Kane’s corporate outlook was no longer needed.

SHUT UP! You are pathetic. You’re weak. You’re a shell of what you used to be. You used to be the Big Red Machine. You used to be a monster. You used to make children scream and women cry at your very presence if you even looked their way. What happened? What happened to the devil’s favorite demon? WHAT HAPPENED TO KANE?!

Stephanie’s bidding required Kane to once again hide his face under the confines of the mask and reach down into the depths of his demonic soul to bring back the Big Red Monster. Her agenda: to make Daniel Bryan wish he had never crossed paths with her or her husband Triple H.

Stephanie then dropped the bombshell on the newly wed Daniel Bryan (now married to Brie Bella) that his opponent at Extreme Rules would be Kane. Now before Stephanie could revel on the shocked looks from both Mr. & Mrs. Danielson, Kane decided that he couldn’t wait for Extreme Rules,  he wanted to “eviscerate” Daniel Bryan.

Stephanie’s protesting and commands didn’t do much to stop Kane from delivering three Tombstone piledrivers to Bryan. To the announcers, Kane appeared to be disobeying the boss, but in actuality, Kane was taking pride in doing his master’s bidding.

As Bryan was carted away, Stephanie hung the WWE and World Heavyweight championships around her arms, and requested with false sympathy that we give it up for Daniel Bryan. Stephanie hardly cared for Bryan’s health, she was simply satisfied with the devastation left behind by her newest monster without any of the blame falling back on her.

The stipulation has yet to be set for Bryan’s first title defense, but knowing Kane, the champion would be wise to avoid anything dealing with fire, especially infernos.

Daniel Bryan in the WrestleMania Spotlight: Feels like it was all supposed to happen this way

“The truth is, it doesn’t matter what led us to this moment, Daniel. It just matters that now we are in this moment. And somehow, it feels like it was all supposed to happen this way. Like we were supposed to be in the ring together.” – Triple H

Logically, it all makes sense. From screwing Daniel Bryan out of the WWE championship at SummerSlam, stripping the title after Night of Champions, to all the obstacles since then; this moment was meant to happen.

Triple H vows to end the YES Movement at WrestleMania.

Yet, as logical as Daniel Bryan versus Triple H at WrestleMania has become, it’s so strange to reconsider that this moment was not supposed to happen. “Anybody else would have folded a long time ago and took their ball and gone home. Not you,” Triple H’s potshot towards his original ‘Mania opponent CM Punk. Yes, a reboot of the Punk-Hunter rivalry of 2012 was supposed to take place at WrestleMania.

Before his departure, CM Punk was outspoken against The Authority and their blatant abuse of power. If anyone said something that was unfavorable to either Hunter or Stephanie McMahon, they would unexpectedly receive a beat down from The Shield. Then after Punk miraculously defeated all three members of The Shield in a handicap match at Survivor Series, his attention shifted over to WWE’s newest Director of Operations, Kane. This new focus cost Punk the Royal Rumble as he was the fourth-to-last contestant in the match lasting over 49 minutes.

Can anyone blame Punk for doing what he did? We were all upset over the direction the company was going through. Batista vs Randy Orton at WrestleMania? CM Punk vs Triple H or Kane? Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus? WrestleMania XXX was shaping up to be a crap-tastic event. And while internally there are some harsh resentment towards CM Punk for walking out of the WWE in its biggest season of the year, he’s the reason that the YES Movement got the push it so richly deserved. Because without CM Punk, the Chicago fans would never have tried to hijack RAW, leading Daniel Bryan to occupy RAW in Memphis, resulting in Bryan getting his match with Triple H and his agreement to be added to the WWE championship match if he is successful.

CM Punk was Triple H’s original WrestleMania opponent.

So while Triple H may say that it doesn’t matter how they got to this moment, it does matter because moments in time occur because of the actions of others. Don’t get where I’m going with this? Imagine if The Curtain Call never occurred at Madison Squared Garden? Triple H would have won King of the Ring that year as planned, instead of Steve Austin and Austin 3:16 would never have been born. There you have it. The journey in time to the present moment does matter, but most importantly it’s what they do now that Daniel Bryan is in the moment.

We heard it from Triple H, regardless of the outcome from his match, the WWE World Heavyweight championship match will be contested under Triple Threat Rules: Randy Orton vs Batista vs Winner between Daniel Bryan and Triple H. Who knows, maybe the addition of Daniel Bryan won’t change the possibility of “The Animal” Dave Batista walking out of New Orleans with the titles, but what if the YES Movement makes it happen?

Answer the Question: Will Triple H end the YES Movement, or will Daniel Bryan defeat Triple H?

The Wolves Quick Ascent and Daniel Bryan in WrestleMania Main Event?

Anyone else find it difficult to be a wrestling blogger while still being a fan? We hear it all the time from pro wrestlers that they hate the majority of us writers because we critique them without having the true insight of the business. It’s disheartening at times because what’s not to love about wrestling, but at the same time we have this need to write and express our opinions of the episodic progress of the products that we watch.

Some wrestlers find us to be short-sighted and unable to grasp the bigger picture, like why a certain talent went over at this certain time, or why a talent didn’t get the push that we were expecting at a given time. Just this past weekend I was twitter-bombed by Davey Richards the day after the airing of IMPACT Wrestling for a comment I tweeted: 

Richards probably views me as another dumb writer or “smark” but in actuality, I’m a fan of the logical slow build. TNA right now has a deteriorating tag team scene with Team 3D, Beer Money, Inc., Generation Me, and Motor City Machine Guns gone from the division. The only viable opposition that The Wolves–who are a saving grace to TNA–is the pairing of Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian, who were voted Best Tag Team of the Year (2012) by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The obvious money-making feud would, and could still, stem from a series of matches between The Wolves and Bad Influence, but instead, TNA gave it to us as part of The Wolves second-ever match in the company. I understand now that The Wolves and Bad Influence will square off inside the Lockdown chamber, but at least hold off the physicality until then. Just consider how euphoric it was, after weeks of stare downs and promos, when The Shield and The Wyatt Family finally squared off in the ring at the WWE Elimination Chamber. The Target Center erupted with chants of “This is Awesome” before the match even started.

But hey, what do I know about pro wrestling right? At least when The Wolves win the TNA World Tag Team titles, it will be memorable…. Oh wait. Nm….

**The IWC boos LOS Tastic!**

Another concept that us writers and fans alike are not understanding is the insanity revolving around the WWE World Heavyweight championships being dangled in front of Daniel Bryan as some sort of sick twisted joke enjoyed by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

We already know that Daniel Bryan is way over with the fans, and we know that WWE knows that we know that Daniel Bryan is “Austin 3:16” over. But at the conclusion of the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, WWE took some pleasure in panning the cameras to the fans’ distraught faces in the Target Center. So not only do we know that WWE knows we want Daniel Bryan to be our champion, but we know that WWE is taking great joy out of our misery as well.

So what’s the bigger picture seeing as virtually no one is buying Batista as our “hero” going into WrestleMania XXX? Will the WWE make it right by adding Daniel Bryan into the championship match as part of a Triple Threat? Well, it’s no WrestleMania XX main event, but if it means Daniel Bryan winning the titles at ‘Mania, then I’m all for it. But what if Daniel Bryan is forced to face Triple H, or worse… Kane?

Then again… WWE has been placing Bryan in multiple matches in a single night. What if, and feel free to worship me…. now, but what if Daniel Bryan faces Triple H at ‘Mania as predicted and beats him. Wait, I’m not finished yet. What if… after Bryan beats Triple H, the ‘Mania host Hulk Hogan then announces that because of Bryan proving Trips wrong, he will be inserted into the championship main event, and then Bryan goes on and wins it! Holy crap, that’s a WrestleMania that I would forever remember, and it’s just the PAY-OFF we all deserve.

Now, before I end this I would like to say that Davey Richards might have given me heat on Twitter, which I guess makes me the bad guy, but it’s TIME for the face turn!!!

What if… Cesaro won the Elimination Chamber?

Cesaro is no longer considered the dark horse going into the WWE Elimination Chamber.

This Sunday, Randy Orton is set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight championship inside the sadistic structure of the Elimination Chamber, and as statistics points out, the champion has never won this match.

Normally we wouldn’t think much of it, since Randy Orton has surpassed statistics in the past: He’s a 2009 Royal Rumble winner; he’s a 2013 Money in the Bank winner; matches he previously never won. But for the past three weeks, Orton has run the gauntlet against his opponents, and based on the results, it doesn’t look good.

The purpose of the gauntlet was to showcase why Randy Orton is The Authority’s hand-picked WWE Superstar to be decreed as the “Face of the WWE”, but what if Orton doesn’t walk out of the chamber with the championship? What if someone other than Randy Orton headlines WrestleMania with “The Animal” Batista?

Once considered the dark horse going into The Elimination Chamber, Cesaro–just Cesaro–pinned the champion clean in the middle of the ring in what many are saying was an incredible SmackDown main event.

Formerly known as Claudio Castagnoli, an alumnus of the Ring of Honor Wrestling promotion, Cesaro debuted in the WWE under its developmental system Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). He performed a series of amazing matches against Richie Steamboat for the FCW 15 championship before being called up to the main roster. Cesaro hit the ground running before winning his first championship when he defeated Santino Marella for the United States championship during the 2012 SummerSlam pre-show.

Sure, concern arose when Cesaro fell into a losing streak after losing the championship, and was forced to yodel as part of some horrible shtick.; but all of that changed when Zeb Colter took Cesaro under his wing and dubbed him a ‘Real American’. Shortly after, Cesaro started utilizing the Giant Swing–known now as the Cesaro Swing–and WWE management finally started taking notice of the Swiss pro wrestler once again.

So the question that I posed, What if someone other than Randy Orton headlines WrestleMania against “The Animal” Batista? Well, what if Cesaro wins it? What if by the end of that match we see an exclamatory Gotch Neutralizer to close out the match and we witness Zeb’s protegé hoisting the two championships that symbolize the WWE World Heavyweight championship? The playing field of the WWE would change emphatically.

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are looking for someone to be the “Face of the WWE”, Cesaro is a multilingual powerhouse. With WWE TV being broadcast worldwide to both North America and abroad, Cesaro could probably speak to all viewers in their native tongue. “Well, Vince McMahon loves big muscular men.” Has anyone taken a look at Cesaro? The man is so soundly built as proof of his Cesaro Swing, his gutwrench suplex, and his dead lift superplex. He’s The Swiss Superman for Pete’s sake!

And if pinning the champion on SmackDown wasn’t impressive enough, how about Cesaro’s performance on Monday Night RAW against John Cena? Cena said it himself, there is a resurgence in the WWE going on right now beaming with phenomenal young talent, and if they want to prove themselves, they have to go through him. Cesaro may not have beaten Cena on RAW, but he sure as hell took Cena to the distance. And if you stand toe to toe with John Cena, and have the WWE Universe shouting all the way up to the rafters that the match is awesome; then what more can you say about Cesaro?

Bryan vs McMahons: The Feud Begins…

He coined a popular phrase. He became mega popular with the fans. Then he was told that he wasn’t WWE championship material. That he needed to change his look. He initially played along, then he refused. He challenged for the WWE Championship with the stipulation of a guest referee. Ultimately the referee’s end game: make sure Daniel Bryan did not walk out of SummerSlam as the WWE champion.

All of this sound familiar?

History is repeating itself in a major way as the C.O.O. of the company Triple H is turning into the new Mr. McMahon. And Daniel Bryan has become the sentimental favorite getting screwed out of the WWE championship similar to how Stone Cold Steve Austin was at the height of the Attitude Era.

Triple H justified his actions at SummerSlam as simply doing what was right for business. Do we as wrestling fans believe that Triple H enjoyed ending Bryan’s reign as WWE champion? Do we believe that Randy Orton is who the WWE needs to survive? To insure that there is a WWE long after Vince McMahon?

Hunter can justify his actions all he wants; the reality is that he screwed Daniel Bryan and enforced a corporate champion that has that WWE look. Even JBL has remarked countless times on commentary: if you were to build a sports entertainer from the ground up, he would look exactly like Randy Orton.

The Monday Night Raw following SummerSlam, The McMahons asserted their authority for the whole WWE Universe to witness. Stephanie had Daniel Bryan escorted out of the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California by a team of security guards; then Triple H welcomed Daniel Bryan back into the arena to “speak his grievances”. Instead, the welcoming invitation was a set up for Daniel Bryan to get ambushed by The Shield, to then get struck by an RKO by the venomous new WWE Champion.

While some fans may be upset because it appears that the C.O.O. is being classic Triple H as he again buries another WWE Superstar; that’s not the case. Like Hunter said, we aren’t seeing the bigger picture. Not saying that Triple H’s viewpoint on Randy Orton being the saving point of the WWE’s future existence is accurate; but in terms that Daniel Bryan will become a much bigger focal point in the WWE’s history.

As mentioned at the start of this post, history is repeating itself. The storyline that saved the WWE from extinction during the Attitude Era is coming back to life with new players. Triple H (the new McMahon) will force Daniel Bryan (the new Steve Austin) to his breaking point, which will unleash an even more aggressive attitude.

Antecedent of the betrayal, the SummerSlam broadcasters announced that the Age of the Beard was here, and that still holds true.

WWE Crowns First NXT Women’s Champion

With WWE’s Divas starring in their own reality-series “Total Divas” on E!, and the Divas competing twice this past Monday Night on RAW–including a renewed rivalry between Divas champion AJ Lee and Kaitlyn–the Divas division is finally making some headway. But the most promising news regarding the division’s future was the crowning of the first NXT Women’s champion, Paige.

Ever since WWE rebranded its developmental territory into NXT Wrestling, the focus has been on competition. Wrestlers on NXT compete either for the NXT championship or NXT Tag Team championships; but for the longest, the Divas simply competed for ring and air time. This all changed when WWE Vice President Stephanie McMahon made the announcement of NXT hosting an eight-women tournament to crown the first-ever NXT Women’s champion.

Paige and Emma, the two finalist, emerged from a series of grueling matches against Divas from the main roster to get to the final round of the tournament. Emma, WWE’s first Australian wrestler, defeated Aksana and Summer Rae; and Paige knocked off Tamina Snuka and former Divas champion Alicia Fox.

The two fan favorites met in the finals on the July 24 edition of NXT Wrestling to deliver one of the best women’s pro wrestling matches in a long time. The Full Sail University crowd were split between Emma and Paige, and even chanted that this was awesome. When was the last time the WWE Universe generated that kind of reaction for a Divas match on Monday Night RAW or Friday Night SmackDown? Unheard of.

Emma and Paige exchanged hay-makers, headbutts, submission holds, and near-falls. The caliber of the match was a bona-fide main event, fighting not only for the dubious honor of being crowned the inaugural champion, but also showing WWE brass and the WWE Universe why they belong. The match ended with Paige executing the Paige Turner finisher, swinging leg-hook fireman’s carry slam, to become the first-ever NXT Women’s champion.

In an emotional celebration, Paige was met in the ring by a number of the NXT Divas, and by a surprise guest, WWE C.O.O. Triple H. The Game entered the ring filled with the lovely Divas, and raised Paige’s arm in the air with his stamp of approval on the aptly nicknamed “Diva of Tomorrow”.

Paige, better known by her former ring name, Britani Knight, is an English professional wrestler who trained at the WAW Academy by her family: Klondyke Kate and Jason Cross. She’s competed in singles and tag team competition throughout Europe, including World Association of Wrestling and Pro-Wrestling: EVE. She has also teamed up and competed against her mother Sweet Saraya. Paige defeated her mom to become the WAW British champion, and lost to her mom for the HEW Women’s championship.

Paige made her USA debut with Saraya for SHIMMER Women Athletes as the Knight Dynasty in a series of loses. The two split up, and in Paige’s final SHIMMER match on Volume 44, she defeated Saraya in a No-DQ match. Then on September 2011, Paige signed a WWE developmental contract and reported to Florida Championship Wrestling and transitioned with the rebranding over to NXT Wrestling. The rest is history.
